Thank you all so much for pitching in a help get the flyers out. I've heard lots of thank you and good jobs from people all over JP who appreciated the time you took to inform them about what they can do to make them safer.
I'd appreciate if you could reply to this discussion with your thoughts on the following...
What should we do differently next time?
Would you make any changes to the flyers or format?
How can we recruit other neighbors to pitch in?
How often should we get the flyers out there?
Should we get some tips up permanently?
What should we do differently next time?
I think that this was a great effort of getting an important message out to the largest population possible. I know while I was posting my flyers there were many people completely unaware of what had happened in out neighborhood.
Would you make any changes to the flyers or format?
As I told Joseph, I think that next time it will be very helpful to have an English and Spanish translation on a single flyer rather than having them separate or two English and two Spanish per sheet. I can understand trying to keep it small and more eco-friendly, but I found myself leaving the half sheet English and half sheet Spanish on each door anyway. It would be easier to have half of the sheet in English and half in Spanish.
How can we recruit other neighbors to pitch in?
People that want to participate and assist will do it. That is the case in any situation, unfortunately. Because if it doesn't effect them personally, they don't see the problem. I think the best way is to continue reaching out and letting people know that they can help.
How often should we get the flyers out there?
I think that something should go out periodically. Complacency always sets in after an event has come and gone. It is always nice to get a reminder from time to time to make those aware that they still need to be cognoscente of the dangers of being distracted while walking alone, especially at night.
Should we get some tips up permanently?
Absolutely! It might be nice to include self-defense classes in the area for those that might be interested in knowing where they can go to learn better ways to protect themselves in the event that they find themselves alone and in an uncomfortable situation.

I agree with Chad who mentioned putting together a few self defense classes together. The more prepared folks are the better.
On a side note, If any streets still need flyering, (I realize I signed up for this a bit late) I am able to do it tomorrow afternoon (Wed.), I just need to know the location.
