Hi birders. I went out in Franklin Park a few Sundays ago, in the early afternoon no less, and was surprised by how many birds are around in winter at the wrong time of day. I posted a photo gallery on the site I run, JP Patch: http://patch.com/A-qJSX

Hi everyone, I plugged this group in today's "Patch Picks," which I used as an excuse to highlight my favorite bird feeder birds. http://patch.com/A-gBLt

My apologies too. Fox news called me asking about the Bald Eagle. I just assumed that was the case. Being kinda color blind also does not help either. DOH!

Thanks, John, that's what I figured.

No, that is a red tail hawk. There are a couple of nesting pairs in JP. This one was duck hunting at Willow Pond, near (behind) where the old Kelley Rink was years ago.

The eagle was almost 2-3 times the size, with really stark white head and tail feathers and really dark brown (almost black) body feathers. It was being harassed by about 6 smaller birds, including a crow and bluejay, as it flew at treetop height over the boathouse and bandstand. We last saw it heading out over the water towards Moss Hill.

Hi John, the thumbnail photo for the group, is that the eagle you saw? My wife and I were in Alaska this summer and I thought the full adults have white heads. I ask because people keep point to this as a photo of the eagle.

Oh, and John, that's great about the bald eagle. I run a Web site for JP, JP Patch and have tweeted and Facebook'ed about it.

This time of year I always take my binoculars on the dog walks in Forest Hills Cemetery. I'm not an expert, but I do make sure to talk to the other people with binoculars. They usually are!
