Hi birders. I went out in Franklin Park a few Sundays ago, in the early afternoon no less, and was surprised by how many birds are around in winter at the wrong time of day. I posted a photo gallery on the site I run, JP Patch: http://patch.com/A-qJSX
No, that is a red tail hawk. There are a couple of nesting pairs in JP. This one was duck hunting at Willow Pond, near (behind) where the old Kelley Rink was years ago.
The eagle was almost 2-3 times the size, with really stark white head and tail feathers and really dark brown (almost black) body feathers. It was being harassed by about 6 smaller birds, including a crow and bluejay, as it flew at treetop height over the boathouse and bandstand. We last saw it heading out over the water towards Moss Hill.
