JP Branch Library In Danger of Closing

FYI, it looks like the BPL will go forward and close 8-10 library branches and many people think that the JP branch at Sedgwick is in danger of being one of the branches that is closed. There is apparently a petition available at the JP library, but it's also important to contact your local representatives if you're interested in keeping an important part of JP.

We are protesting at the Egleston Square Branch Library next Saturday (March 13th) and welcome all branches to come support the BPL!

Here is the Facebook Event: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?invites&eid=343735720546

Help Save Our Boston Library Branches!!

The Library Trustees and Mayor Menino want to close the BPL branches, but we still have time to save them and public support matters!!

We at the Egleston Square Branch have saved our branch before and are fighting to save it once again. We know all of you are fighting to do the same.

We want all of the branches to come together and tell the Trustees in one voice to balance the budget WITHOUT CLOSURES and WITHOUT REDUCING STAFF OR HOURS. We want our City & State Reps. and Mayor Menino to know that they cannot rush these closures through without anyone noticing. They have our attention and we will not let our our neighbors lose their jobs, we will not let our libraries close.

Come to the Egleston Square Branch at 2044 Columbus Ave. on Saturday March 13th from 12:00PM - 1:00PM and show your support by reading with us at The Great Egleston Read-In.

Bring a book (or check one out from us), bring signs, bring your voice. Help us fill the library and line Columbus Avenue with readers.

We will have speakers voicing their support of the library, but we need ALL OF YOU to send the message that the public will not let its libraries be taken away from ANY neighborhood ANYWHERE in Boston.

You can send our message without saying a word and together we can save our libraries!

Organized by the Friends of Egleston Square Library

For those traveling to the branch for the first time, the library is served by the Stony Brook T-Station, and the #22, #29, #42, and #44 Bus Routes.

There's a nice woman standing outside JP Licks taking signatures for the petition right now.

Here are a couple of items that may be helpful to the liibrary discussion. Visit www.bpl.org/budget and leave online comments about the proposal. 2. Attend and voice your opinion at the next BPL Trustees' meeting March 9, 2010, 3:00pm @ the Copley Sq. Library. (Might be good to confirm this coming week that meeting has not been changed).

Eric, can you grab a copy of the petition, then we make online version of this and get people to sign it via the network. We can use google docs.

I also heard there is a public meeting about this. We should show in force! Can you find out when and where?

Thanks.
