Do stuff with and for your neighbors

Shall we dig each other out? Near blizzard conditions with 1 to 2 feet of snow Friday night

Neighbors,

A massive snow storm is expected to hit Boston this Friday and dump 1 to 2 feet of snow!

While snow storms can be fun, they can also cause a lot hardship for our elderly, disabled, and sick neighbors as snow makes it very difficult to for them to get basics such as food, medicine, and getting around town.

Utilizing SeeClickFix.com, there is a way for those in need (and those who care for them) to plot what needs to be shoveled using a custom category in SeeClickFix.com called "Neighbor Requests" AND a way for those nearby that wish to shovel their neighbors, to let them know they are on their way, and go dig them out.  Pretty cool right?

--> If you are interested in helping out, please join our SnowCrew Coordination Group

--> To learn more about how it works, see the Snow Crew Page

I am willing to coordinate, but I need the following from you, our members,  to make this work:

Volunteer to be a Shoveler:

  1. We need a least 50 people per neighborhood to sign up to volunteer to shovel by 6 pm on Thursday. Only the neighborhoods who have enough people registered will be dug out. Please sign by joining the SnowCrew Coordination Group

Volunteer to be a Communicator:

  1. We need at least 6 people to volunteer on Friday and Saturday to call people back who leave messages (that will be forwarded to your email address) requesting help plotting what they need shoveled if the don't have internet access. Please sign by joining the SnowCrew Coordination Group
  2. We need one person per neighborhood to call the churches and senior centers to spread the word of this service. Please sign by joining the SnowCrew Coordination Group
  3. We need people to continuously help recruit more volunteer shovelers on twitter, facebook, and pinterest. Please sign by joining the SnowCrew Coordination Group or just share our facebook page posts and #snowcrew tweets.

Hey Laura,

Yep, all is good in DC. I do really miss JP!

Glad to get this underway should you, or anyone else need it.

It is so great of you to still involve yourself/care about the people in your neighborhood, Joseph!

Hope all is well in DC!

I have a newish neighbor who may help me but if I get stuck I will be very greatful to have the help. Thanks to you and all you volunteers I will have the option. I've been laid up with shoulder and foot problems so I can neither leave my house without using my car (cant' walk far enough / to T etc) or shovel out my car without hurting myself. I am sure there are others like me as well, more than I'd think otherwise (I now notice how many people use canes since I do myself !) All of your exertions really make a huge difference for people who might otherwise be really stuck, more than you may realize.
