Event Description

"The love of literature, of language, of the mystery of the mind and heart showing themselves in the minute, strange, and unexpected combinations of letters and words, in the blackest coldest print---the love which [we have] hidden as if it were illicit and dangerous, [we begin] to display, tentatively at first, and then boldly, and then proudly." - John Williams

This event is for ALL BPL Libraries and is being held at the Egleston Square Branch Library.

The branch is hosting this event because many of those affected in our neighborhood can't take off in the middle of the day to attend a trustee's meeting, but we can bring ourselves and the city together for one hour and let our officials know what the libraries mean to us.

We need our branch and we know that you need yours too. This is why we want users of all branches to meet with us this Saturday and protest these closings. We hereby invite you to "The Great Egleston Read-In" (and invite you to steal this text to invite others as well):

Come to the Egleston Square Branch at 2044 Columbus Ave. on Saturday March 13th from 12:00PM - 1:00PM and show your support by reading with us at The Great Egleston Read-In.

Bring a book (or check one out from us), bring signs, bring your voice. Help us fill the library and line Columbus Avenue with readers.

We will give away 4 signed first-editions of Steve Almond's new book to a representative from the 3 branches that travel the farthest and the branch with the most supporters (not counting Egleston!).

We will have city representatives, state representatives, and members of the community voicing their support of the library, but we need ALL OF YOU to send the message that the public will not let its libraries be taken away from ANY neighborhood ANYWHERE in Boston.

You can send our message without saying a word and together we can save our libraries!

Organized by the Friends of Egleston Square Library

For those traveling to the branch for the first time, the library is served by the Stony Brook T-Station, and the #22, #29, #42, and #44 Bus Routes.

Do not be afraid that we will run out of space, we have Franklin Park across the street if we need it; Do not count on the person next to speak up for you, speak up for yourself!!
