How to work with neighbors who do not shovel?

Hi I was looking for some advice on how to deal with a neighbor who does not shovel their walk.

I have been here in JP for about 4 years. Over that time there has always been one neighbor who consistently does not shovel. I have only seen their sidewalk shoveled once in that time period.

My wife asked them about it last winter and their reply, "We are just girls, we can't do it."

This  year I asked them, and they replied that they did shovel. Yet if you look at the…

What impacts should be considered and what should the community process look like if Whole Foods is really planning to move into JP?

Where will the Latino and Caribbean JP residents who counted on Hi-Lo as an institution for 47 years get the items they need that can't be easily found in Boston?

Rather than debate what organic food store should move in, I'd really like us to explore how to continue to provide the culturally appropriate ingredients that have been vital for many JP residents. Will some local entrepreneur step up to fill in this gap? Can we pressure the new store to carry these items at reasonable prices?

The wonderful diversity of JP is at stake here as this change continues to move us towards two JPs - one that can afford to get in a car and go to multiple…

Whole Foods or Trader Joe's: We have voice, let it be heard!!

Neighbors,

I just blogged about Hi-Lo closing.

I'm curious, which would you rather, Whole Food or Trader Joe's or what alternatives would you suggest?

How would this benefit our community and who would it hurt?

If we feel strongly about this, we can weigh in. Before we do, we need to carefully take into who our who really represents - and work to…

Snow Removal Etiquette (or Lack of)

I get it.... we have A LOT of snow, and when digging out our cars, we're  not supposed to dump the snow back in the middle of the street. Again, I get it!!

But is it really a good (or nice) alternative to dump your snow next to or on top of the car on the other side of the street?  Is Jamaica Plain SOOO tight that there's no where else to dump snow?  Not cool!!  See pics below.  This really happens!
