Nissan Altima Sideswiped on Beecher St by red / maroon Home Improvement Van

I was just at the dog park at around 10:35 when I witness a maroon / red home improvement van speed down Beecher st and strike a Nissan Altima, shearing off the driver's side mirror of the car. The van drove off faster than I could get the plate number or see exactly what company it was. I do know, however, that I have seen this van parked on Beecher St. in the past weeks

Neighbors,

This snow has been tough and the "space savers" and dealing with parking has been a struggle for all of us. This morning I found my neighbors doing the right thing - what we all should be doing. Please watch and share this post to help spread the word.…

JPNC - Email For Those Who Missed Recent Meeting Regarding Whole Foods

Hello. I was out of town and missed this past JPNC meeting regarding the Whole Foods in Hyde Square. I would like to be able to express my opinion to the JPNC and was wondering if there was a way to do so via email. I know there are various JPNC members here so I thought I would post here for information (and for the sake of anyone else who did not attend the recent meeting).

I see there is an email address on JPNC's website (info.jpnc AT gmail.com) but I was unsure whether…

Can't get an oil delivery on Beecher Street due to parked cars blocking the way

Our oil tank is currently reading empty. I have been unable to receive an oil delivery for 3 days now because the oil trucks can't get down Beecher street due to cars sticking out. In fact, its increasingly difficult to even drive a car down Beecher St right now.

I understand that parking is an issue during the winter in JP, however I would like to ask those of you parked on Beecher street to make an effort to pull your cars in as close to the snow banks as possible.

I ask… Continue

I had a great neighborly experience...

After shoveling out my car from about five inches of snow, I left work in Roslindale around 2:30 on Tuesday. It took about a half an hour to get home to Central JP...it was very slippery. My employer had just come from my neighborhood an hour before and said there were alot of parking spaces available on the street then, but by the time I got there I didn't see any but one. It looked big enough and that I could get it. But I was wrong on both accounts! (For the first time, I have been wrong…

Info from 2000 Census

A little info about JP that I thought some of you might find interesting from the 2000 census that I found on line.  Jamaica Plain is 3.07 sq miles. The gross population density/sq mile was 12,402.  The foreign born population was 22.9 % .  The unemployment rate was 5.5%.  There were 16,536 housing units.  95.2% of the housing units were occupied.  The median gross rent was $808. The pop of JP was 38, 074.  14.7% worked in service jobs and 55.9% worked in management or professions.

Don't wait out in the COLD

This app for Android phones is a must have for days like these.. The weather is dreadful out there, but many of us still have to go to work.  So we end up standing out in the bitter tundra, waiting and waiting for the next bus, but there is no reason.  Not when you can know exactly when the next three buses are arriving at our stop.  That's right, this app give real time tracking of all city buses/stops, accurate down to the second.

Don't Forget the "R"

We all want to get better, don't we?  In fact most of us are trying in most areas of our lives to get better.  It's part of our cultural way of thinking.  We think things are supposed to work better, faster and more precisely.  In the recesses of our minds, most of us even believe we are getting faster and stronger and smarter - and that aging is not really affecting us that much.…
