BPL President Amy E. Ryan Recommends 22 Branches to Remain Open, 4 to CLOSE

This is a press release from the BPL, following the April 7 Meeting of the Trustees. Note that the title of the press release fails to mention that 4 will CLOSE. The trustees will vote tomorrow on the FY2011 budget, most likely following the recommendation of the BPL president, Amy Ryan.

In this the Connolly and the JP Branch buildings will stay open with the existing hours. Not so for the Faneuil, Lower Mills, Orient Heights, and Washington… Continue

Gross conditions in some JP restaurants

Curious how your favorite place stacks up? You can search the Boston city health inspection database by name and/or neighborhood (I just selected JP to see all the restaurants.)

Well, after seeing the long list of health code violations at one of my favorite restaurants, it's no longer on my list! Apparently the city had reports of rodents eating food off the floors, they've been routinely cited for not storing food…

Low cost good food available to everyone.

Angel Food Ministries in Jamaica Plain. Its a low cost, once a month food program that anyone can participate in. Its hosted at St Johns Church in JP.

Its not a hand out, its not sub-standard food, its open to everyone, anyone can order and the program is nationwide, but there is a host site in JP.

Tell your friends, tell your neighbors, we would like to get the word out to the folks who need help with food. This is a excellent way to stretch the budget for everyone.…

Break-in Rockview

Someone broke in to our car about 30 minutes ago on the Spring Park end of Rockview (2:40am Tuesday). The car was in our driveway.

Please call 911 if you see anything suspicious.

I also have this report from our neighbors-

Hi Neighbors,

This past Friday there were several break-ins in our area. Between

noon and 3 PM a house of Enfield (that abuts Robinwood) was robbed and

also 2-3 homes on Spring Park. The Enfield house was wiped out, I

hear.… Continue

BPL Update

Hello, I am Brandon Abbs, founder of People of Boston Branches and we are working to bring all of the concerned groups together to fight cuts to library funding. We want to save all 104 jobs and all 26 branches because each job is a neighbor and each branch supports a neighborhood. They are all important and the city needs to bring $3.6M out of reserves to support the library while we examine how it is run and make it fitter for the future without cutting our neighbors off from the… Continue

Cooking Group

Anyone interested in the Stonybrook area (or beyond) in starting a cooking group? Lots of options - host can pick theme and members make courses, or each host does a full meal and host location rotates. My husband and I love to cook and have dinner parties but want to get to know our neighbors in the process while learning some new recipes!

Let me know if you are hungry for this kind of group :)

Burglary from car on Green Street

HI everyone! I am planning on filing a police report today but wanted to give people a heads up. On or about Saturday night our car was broken into (jeep wrangler). We first thought someone had just looked around since the soft top window was sort of removed - not ripped, and things looked like they were thrown about the car. The radio was there and we could not think of anything that was missing but we realized that we had left our Craftsman toolbox inside and it was missing. I don't really… Continue

WALKING PARTNERS

Hi,

I'm looking for neighbors who would enjoy sharing a walk in this lovely weather and get to know each other better. Dogs are welcome! I love animals. I have interests in writing, gardening, herbs, holistic health, art, free form dancing, and creativity.

Cheers,
