Neighbors,
The good news is the City just said they are "not expecting significant storm surge or evacuations in Boston". The bad news is they are concerned about "damaging tropical force winds".
Let's secure our outdoor furniture, grills etc to prevent damage NOW.
Stay safe and please check in on each other and especially our elderly, sick, and disabled…

Your family may not be together when disaster strikes, so it is important to plan in advance: how you will contact one another; how you will get back together; and what you will do in different situations.

The information below is copied from Ready.gov.
You may need to survive on your own after an emergency. This means having your own food, water, and other supplies in sufficient quantity to last for at least three days. Local officials and relief workers will be on the scene after a disaster, but they cannot reach everyone immediately. You could get help in hours, or it might take days. In addition, basic…

Neighbors,
It looks like we are going to get hit by Hurricane Irene this weekend.
"National Hurricane Center Director Bill Read laid the threat out plainly: "We are very concerned with what's going to happen in New England. The benchmark is the 1938 hurricane. I am very concerned with what will happen there.""
We'll keep you posted throughout the storm. We are also thinking about doing "Hurricane Crew" like we did for the snow storms this winter - stay…

Hello neighbors,
I wanted to let folks know that my husband and I just returned home to find that our bicycles were stolen from our driveway (100 Paul Gore) sometime while we were out today (between around 9:45 a.m. till 4 p.m.). The two bikes had been locked together to a fence at the top end of our driveway, with a pretty heavy-duty bicycle cable which was severed in what looks like one swift, sharp cut. Both bicycles were mountain bikes, on the older side but in good condition.…

A very dark horse in the race, but a good way to help spread the word about acoustic not-for-profit concerts in a beautiful historic house.

I had the below pictured red bike stolen off my porch last night in Stony Brook, and would love it if anyone would keep an eye out for it. I know it happens a lot! But it's depressing because I just bought it from Bikes Not Bombs not long ago, used it for 2 weeks, and off it went. It could not have even been of much value, just sentimental. And I was really hoping to bike to work and save on gas. Dang it.
The bike's identifying feature (besides the rust) is it has a…

Hey Guys!
I wanted to let you know that Boing!'s new owner, Kim Mitchell, a long time JP resident, has agreed to hire a local youth through the JP Youth Employment Project if we vote with our dollars to show that we care. It's another way to support local JP businesses that give back to our community!

For women 18 and older: This one-to-one mentoring program matches girls in elementary school with women mentors. Matches meet once a week at the Little Sister’s school or at an after-school site. Weekly visits are 45 minutes to an hour for one academic school year.
School-Based mentors are not teachers or tutors; they are caring and consistent friends. They do arts and crafts, shoot hoops in the gym, read books, or simply share stories over lunch. Each match independently…
