Network Update and Next Steps

Neighbors,

A couple weeks ago, we announced we'd be consolidating our network into one city wide network. So far I've accomplished the following:

  1. Made the JP network the base network and changed the website address to NeighborsForNeighbors.org
  2. Made it really easy for you to find what you are looking for on the front page with our new "Craigslist" style navigation. Thanks you to David K for the support and Guidance.
  3. Created forum categories for each…

Welcome to the new Citywide Neighbors for Neighbors!

Neighbors,

Over the weekend we migrated to the our new URL and began implementing the new navigation structure on the front page.

A technical glitch took the network offline from Saturday from about 5 pm to early this morning, thanks for your patience as that took some time to resolve.

If you have any feedback or suggestions, please leave them as a comment.

Whose Foods Rally on Monday, 2/28, TOMORROW NIGHT

Hi JP Neighbors,

Come out to the Whose Foods Rally on Monday, 2/28! There's a lot of momentum right now in the opposition to Whole Foods coming to JP, but the most vital piece of the resistance is the voice of community members. We need people to come together and show by numbers that there is strong opposition to a Whole Foods in JP. See below for details.…

Is Neighors for Neigbors for meeting your needs? Let us know!

Neighbors,

Over the last six years, Neighbors for Neighbors has evolved to meet the needs and possibilities we believed and dreamed we could affect in our neighborhood given the financial, human, and technology resources we've had at hand.

We have proven time and time again that neighbors, police, and city personnel who are connected, who communicate and collaborate with each other produce unexpected and amazing results.

Today, needs have changed and so have our resources. We… Continue

Shovel as if your heart matters

If you're a 20-something or a 30-something or a physically fit any-something, shoveling out your car and clearing snow from your walk shouldn't be a problem. But when you're of an AARP age, like me, shoveling can be a bit hazardous. In fact, it's a known trigger for heart attack, especially for folks with heart disease or those who don't usually get any exercise.

For my day job, I write about health for…

Please Support Families from Nov. 21 Violence

Dear all,

When Johnnel Cruz, Ariel Dume, and Winzisky Soto passed away in November, many Jamaica Plain residents responded quickly to hold events, vigils, and meetings, as well as support Same Old Place.

Since then, a number of young adults, youth workers, and community supporters have continued working to channel tragedy into something positive and working to stop future violence from occurring. Part of this work is continuing to support the families involved,…

There's a new dog on the block

My name is Matt Finnigan, and I'm new to the neighborhood. A Connecticut native, I moved to Somerville in 2008; my girlfriend Janine and I wanted to get a place together in Boston. In July, we moved onto Beecher St, with my 5-year-old German Shepherd, Wilma. If you are a regular at Beecher Park, you've probably seen us.

When I lived in CT, I had been a foster parent for Fidelco. They are a guide dog foundation near Hartford - the only in CT, one… Continue

Stolen bicycles

A quick heads up for JP residents...

We seem to be experiencing a spike in bicycle thefts around JP. In the last 30 days, 15 bicycles have been stolen from all around JP. A few of these bikes have been left unlocked, but many have been reported secured/locked to banisters, porches, fences, etc. Some have even been secured inside building hallways. I would like to suggest that "out of sight is out of mind". For some it may be difficult to secure bike inside property, but it…
