Flu prevention advice from Karen Kirchoff

I saw Karen today in her new office in Roslindale Square. 11 Cohasset Street, 617.522.3990

I have to be very mindful of flu, and can't do vaccinations.

So today I got Karen's advice beyond what I know.

She has a tincture (or pill form) to prescribe now before the season starts.

She has identified a chinese herb pill formula to keep on hand and take immediately at onset of symptoms.

If you know Chinese medicine, she has analyzed the flu and the… Continue

What is the status of Dominos?

What was the status, in regards to Dominos Pizza trying to open up a Fast Food Chain Store in Jamaica Plain? I will not step foot into that type of establishment. If they somehow manage to open up, to close them down, don't give them any business.

If I am craving Pizza, then I will go to Bella Luna

Celebrate Summertime Bounty at JP's Farmers' Market this Sunday 10AM to 2PM (behind the Stony Brook T station)

Stop by and meet our newest farmer from Concord, Massachusetts: Millbrook Farm. They'll be bringing beautiful blueberries, peaches and nectarines; gorgeous beans, corn and summer squash -- just to name a few!

And if you're interested in the perfect August recipe to celebrate all that the farmers' market has to offer, THINK GAZPACHO!

At The Cantata, our Fruit Gazpacho was made with:

Apples, pears, peaches,… Continue

Health Care reform discussion

Just a heads up but does anyone who has any knowledge of this issue want to have a meeting to enlighten what is going onand what is on the table.I am willing to host a meeting at my place if there is any interest.

Just a bit about my prejudices. My father was a surgeon for 10 years in the British National Health Service and then head of a hospital in Saudi Arabia. My brother, who came to the US seeking treatment but was advised to return to the UK, recently passed away after… Continue

New Community Supported Fishery (CSF) to start Tuesday, August 18th

Most days I break out into song . . . 'food, glorious food, what I wouldn't do for . . ' begins my only refrain. Most people who know my singing, are thankful. I'm tone deaf. Musically that is.

Now, food-wise, I tend to be a bit more 'on key' so to speak. Food gives me joy. And because that's true, I end up wanting to share that which gives me joy. Hence, my blogging about food.

Today's blog is about fish.

Back in June, JP became one of the first locations for a… Continue

Best Breakfast Sandwich?

I've been in JP just over a year now, formerly a resident of Allston/Brighton for nearly 10 years, and have not had much luck finding a great breakfast sandwich. I'm over near Forest Hills but would travel for a great sandwich. I used to eat egg & cheese sandwiches all the time, normally picking one up and running to catch the T. Would still like to! And yes, I also have a food blog (http://www.fussy-eater.com).

So far my… Continue

I am against Dominios

I agree we don't need a fast food chain food places in J.P. That is one of the reasons why I moved here, to avoid big companies with food that is processed/runs small comanies out of business. Lets surport the places we have and if they do manage to set up a Dominos, if no one goes to eat there then they will have to leave due to no sales.

Video of what some neighbors had to say about Dominos

Neighbors,

On Saturday, I was trying out my new Nokia N96 (AWESOME) and filming what neighbors had to say about Domino's potentially opening up a store at 467 Centre where petal and leaf used to reside.

I interviewed folks I ran into. This in no way should be considered "a scientific study."

Note: There were two people I did speak with who were in favor of a… Continue

Monday Night's Dinner

This past year I've been on a quest of sorts.

I want a pantry. What I have is one cupboard above my counter top, a 1/2 cupboard above my stove, and another 1/2 cupboard above my icebox -- better known in these parts as a fridge. Oh, and I have a standard, apartment-sized fridge and freezer.

Let me explain. To me, pantries are where you go to play with food. What you have or keep or have easy access to -- that's what you get to play with in your kitchen.

So, my… Continue
