giving away four small rhododendron plants

I have four very young rhododendrons I want to give to a good home (and a better, sunnier spot). If you're willing to do the work of digging, I'd be happy to give them to a fellow JP-ite (JP-er? Jamaican?) I live in Hyde Square and have pretty flexible hours most days. (I'd want to be around when you dig them up.)

Thanks!

Hot Day, Cool Market!

The Community Servings Farmers Market got off to a delicious start yesterday. Read about some of the great food and people you'll find there every Wednesday from 4-7 pm on my blog, The PescoVegetarian TImes.

Free Books at Rhythm & Muse

Just wanted to give the community a heads-up about our ongoing attempt to clear the basement at Rhythm & Muse, in preparation for adding a tapas restaurant/ wine bar. Though the store is currently closed, we will be keeping the outdoor bookcase stocked with FREE BOOKS over the next month or two. Please take as many as you like, and if you have books of your own to donate, please feel free to use our shelf space.

please explain street-cleaning rules to me...I'm confused...

Hi. I live on Forbes Street. On my side of the street it says they do street cleaning on the first and third Monday of the month, from 8 to 12. When these days come, I don't see any cars moving out of the way. Then again, I got a parking ticket recently, on my side, when it was the fourth Monday. I'm in the middle of contesting it so haven't heard the result back yet, but I triple-checked that it was not the first or third Monday. BTW, I don't see evidence that my street is ever being… Continue

Are you really good at the 4th at the Hatch Shell?

My Mom is up for a visit and REALLY wants us to make it to hear the Pops Sunday night. This is my 5th year in Boston during the summer, but I've never truly braved the crowds.
Are you/your family /friends planning to make the day of it, and could use a couple of JP-ites and one fun Mom to add to your caravan? We are both very chill and relaxed; no restrictions around us.
We could take the midday shift on our shared "spot" or make some other contribution of that sort to hold onto…

Farmers Market at Community Servings Opens Wednesday July 7 at 4pm

Greetings!

As someone who loves going to farmers markets, I've always been disappointed that JP didn't have a bigger market with a wider range of products. Well, we still don't have a super big market, but now we have two of them.

As you may remember, Community Servings opened a Farmers' Market last year over at 18 Marbury Terrace, near the Stony Brook T station. This year, they are holding the market on Wednesday from 4-7 pm, starting July 7. The market features…

48 bus

Hello neighbors,

I just read a post in the JP Gazette that said that "community activists" are working to keep the 48 route running. I live in this community and find this route to be a complete nuisance. First of all, it runs a superfluous route that is already serviced by the Orange Line and 39 bus. Secondly, it is a terrible waste of resources. I have lived on/just off… Continue

The Key/s

“Repetition, repetition, repetition – that’s the key,” said the strange elderly woman. As I was running this morning, a peculiar woman with a cane stopped, began to make unnatural gestures with her hands, looked into my eyes and kept repeating the above phrase. As I continued to run, I pondered her comment. “Is repetition really the key?”

I think there a few interrelated keys to growth and effectiveness in real life. They are revelation,…

Dangerous, homophobic driver in JP

Hi Neighbors,

I was biking to work this morning and making a left turn from Centre, at the monument. While I was waiting to make my turn, a driver came up on my right and put his left turn signal on. When I said "I'm making a left turn too", told me to "fuck off." When I made my left turn, he tried to make the turn around me on my right side, which forced me into the oncoming lane.

Funny how traffic works- I ended up next to him a few minutes later, and snapped a picture… Continue

Scam

Read about this a while ago. Yesterday early a.m. a woman came into my office with a sob story. She had gotten out of her car to mail a letter and dropped her keys in the sewer. She called the sewer dept. but their trucks were busy cleaning out pipes. Her three kids ( this woman was far beyond child bearing age) were in the car. The locksmith was charging her $49.95 to make new keys and she only has $25.00. Could I lend her $25.00 until 11:00? When I asked where her car was she ignored that… Continue
